In one of the year's most highly anticipated reveals, Virgil Abloh has finally unveiled his designs for IKEA.
Not that IKEA needed any help when it came to international recognition, but its newest collaboration has ensured the Swedish furniture giant is the talk of fashion and design lovers worldwide. Teaming up with Virgil Abloh, the man for whom anything he touches turns to sold-out gold, is by far one of the coolest things the company has done in recent history.
Speaking of the collection, Abloh says, "This is going to be a unique project in that it's going to be by large, the first thing that I've done that has the most amount of design and difficulty to actually making the goods. A, it addresses the realm of our living space outside of our closet, and B, this is something that will be readily available and priced at a means that people can participate in."
There will be rugs! The IKEA x OFF-WHITE collaboration will feature at least two rugs. Taking to Instagram back in October of last year, Virgil Abloh gave us a sneak peek of a blue rug. Later, images by The Snobette and Instagram user Portnygain revealed the full paisley print blue “KEEP OFF” rug, alongside a large red rug with “BLUE” lettering.
And an OFF-WHITE x IKEA FRAKTA bag! When the collaboration was first announced in June 2017, IKEA shared an image of Abloh with a yellow FRAKTA bag reading “SCULPTURE.”As the image was taken in the Prototype Lab it remains to be seen whether Abloh will go ahead with this particular design, but afterBalenciaga released its own take on the iconic bag, it would be surprising if OFF-WHITE didn’t use this opportunity to do the same.
Stating that the aim is to make an affordable collection for millennials, the designer also promised that the collection will retail at the typical IKEA price points.
