Christopher Bailey’s Last Burberry Show

Christopher Bailey said his goodbye to Burberry on Saturday night — and it certainly wasn’t a quiet exit! There is no denying that Burberry is one of the most-anticipated shows during London Fashion Week. However, this season is particularly poignant, as after seventeen years at the helm of the British brand, Christopher Bailey will bid farewell showcasing his final collection. A once-dormant heritage brand that over 17 years he had transformed not only into a retailing phenomenon — a multibillion-dollar enterprise with 460 stores and 10,000 employees — but also a global symbol of Britishness.

Guests entered the west London venue to the chants and screeches of fur protesters — who came out in even larger numbers than last season — and entered a vast and largely vacant brick venue where the designer’s guests and friends were gathering to watch his last show for the brand.“I’m proud and sad in equal parts,” said Sienna Miller, who starred in Burberry’s 2016 Christmas campaign, a short film that also featured Dominic West. “All the Burberry girls had to be here tonight.” They came out in force: Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Keira Knightley and Naomi Watts joined Michelle Dockery, Naomie Harris, Lily James and Daphne Guinness.

It’s not often that Chelsea Clinton, Alexa Chung, and Zendaya happen to be in the same place, but none of them would’ve dared miss Christopher Bailey’s last Burberry show at London Fashion Week. They were far from the only celebrities — in fact, the crowd was notably star-studded. Aside from the aforementioned women, attendees included Sienna Miller, Alexa Chung, Keira Knightley, Liam Gallagher (and his son), Tom Holland, Law Roach, Paris Jackson, Lily James, Matt Smith, and Jourdan Dunn, many of whom wore old Burberry designs.
