Marc Jacobs VS. Mark Jacobes: Is bootlegging The New Trend?

What a year it has been for the fashion industry! Almost every high end brand has taken a different road within the company this year. The biggest of them all, is the street wear inspired pieces.

With that, we’ve seen something that no one would ever imagine happening within a well known brand, which is bootlegging! It started with Gucci’s cruise collection where we’ve seen a dress that says Guccy”. Nope, it is not a spelling mistake, in fact, it's the medieval spelling of the brand and a riff on the knock-offs that are sold all over the world.

Following in Gucci’s footsteps, Marc Jacobs have collaborated with one of Instagram’s most popular designer logo artists and a bootlegger! Nirui, who is now Helmut Lang’s digital editor is known for taking luxury brand’s monikers and reinterpreting them in her own way. She printed “LV” on her teacup and decorated an inhaler with Dior costume jewelry to name a few of her work. On December 4th, Marc Jacobs will be releasing a white hoodie that he collaborated on with Ava Nirui, that says in a scratchy font “Mark Jacobes est. 1985”.

A real bootleg,” is how Nirui described the sweatshirt on her Instagram this evening. She also added, “I was making fake Marc Jacobs a year ago . . . life is crazy!

We can safely say that the fashion would is getting crazier by the minute! It seems like bootlegging and knock-offs are becoming designer approved! So, do we smell a new trend in 2018?!
