The Ultimate Saudi Ambition: Misk Global Forum 2017

Last week, one of Saudi Arabia’s most iconic and inspiring events welcomed thousands from all around the world. The annual Misk Global Forum that was launched in 2016 by H.R.H. Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman became a destination that every ambitious mind craves to reach.

Misk brought together more than 110 speakers that hosted around 70 impeccable sessions; all aimed towards developing and empowering the Saudi Youth to contribute in the knowledge economy. During the forum, Bill Gates announced that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation are launching a new collaboration with Misk: Misk Grand Challenges. The project is aimed towards generating fresh ideas that can tackle pressing global issues facing the next generation.

On day one of the forum, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan delivered the opening remarks in a presentation titled ‘What Does Crafting My Future Look Like?’. During her speech, she stressed on the importance of coming together not only as people with dreams, but shapers of the Arab Region. “Let us inspire them to feel that the future is theirs, as we strive to create a fertile land for us and our children, a land where dreams are nurtured and can bear fruit” she shared.

Many worthy speakers and presenters lit Riyadh with their essential words of wisdom and bright visions towards the future. As difficult as it may be to single-out one special session in this unique affair, a panel discussion titled ‘I Spotted a Unicorn - Can You?’ was responsible for filling the entire arena and leaving some standing with determination to get the most out of it. The discussion was moderated by CNN Anchor Richard Quest, where he lead the discussion with speakers:

Abdulrahman Tarabzouni, CEO & MD, STV

Eddy Maroun, Co-founder, Anghami

Ronaldo Mouchawar, CEO, Souq.com

Dr. Abdulla Elyas, Co-founder and CPO, Careem Inc

Matt Ocko, Co-Managing Partner, DCVC

One of the attendees, Sunny Nguyen, who is a part of the Entrepreneurs Association in Berkeley, California, flew-in specifically to attend Misk Global Forum. She shared: “I’m very surprised and inspired by the energy of the young people and how united the country is whilst looking forward to the future”. This declaration proved that Misk Global Forum was once again a success on not merely a national, but international scale; making a strong impression on everyone.

All-in-all, we are certain that every participant, volunteer, partner and attendee felt the energy that is driving our country at full throttle towards Vision 2030, and even further to an impeccable future filled with success that will surely make global history.
