Being backstage at a fashion show is not as extravagant and luxurious as you may think it is. Backstages are very crowded; the models, the make-up artists, the hair stylists, the photographers are all cramped back there in a small space trying to do their jobs.
The models either scroll through their feeds, take selfies, get a quick bite in, or chitchat with each other while they are getting dolled up. Not to mention, they get interviewed by some press during their glam sessions.
As we all know, the fashion world is quite small, so almost all models know each other and have formed cliques, so when they are not getting glammed, they are sitting in their own little circles laughing and gossiping. It would suck to be the odd one out in that industry.
The most important fact we need to address is that models EAT. Not all of them do, but some have pretty big appetites. Backstages have tables of delicacies, ranging from veggies to pizzas. Lots of models have spoken out about how some brands get boxes of pizzas that disappear in a matter of seconds.
The food differs depending on the brand, some opt for healthier options; for example, healthy subs and some cut up cucumbers and carrots, while others get burger sliders and chocolate chip cookies. Models can choose to eat a bag of chips or a salad, it really is up to them, some models even get their own snacks at times. Models get hungry and get full just like we do. Sometimes the all you can eat buffet is gone within seconds, sometimes it looks as if no one had touched it. Models are human after all. At the end of the day, it all depends on the runway show itself, the models' appetites, and how hectic it is backstage.
The backstage life is a whirlwind of an organized mess, but who cares as long as that mess ends up being a good show!
